Beni Brosh
Glass, Fire, and Song
Honest Songs, Salt-of-the-Earth Style
With a guitar in hand and his guitar case doubling as a kick drum, Beni creates the effect of a one-man band, blending Laurel Canyon rock, troubadour folk, and what he jokingly calls “unsuccessful country music”. His influences include Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and John Prine, as well as contemporary Americana artists such as Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile, and Nathaniel Rateliff.
Over the past decade, he has performed in 46 states, sharing stages with artists including Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, The War and Treaty, Sierra Hull, and The Ghost of Paul Revere. His shows balance quippy banter, salt-of-the-earth presence, and meticulous songwriting that can make you laugh, cry, and reflect on the strangeness of life.
From Cubicles to Tour Vans
Beni grew up in West Orange, New Jersey, just outside New York City, where music was everywhere. He picked up his first guitar at age 8 and by his teens was already writing songs. After college, he worked in Manhattan for a time but soon realized he was “living someone else’s life”.
In 2013, he co-founded a folk-rock trio (The Coteries), touring the U.S. with the group before stepping out as a solo artist in 2017. His debut solo EP, Hole Hearted (2019), established his distinct voice, which he has since carried from intimate listening rooms to festival stages.
Featured Song: “Cappuccino”
When the pandemic paused touring, Beni discovered glassblowing—an art form as intense, physical, and spontaneous as live performance. The process reshaped his approach to songwriting: where words once took years to refine, he learned to embrace immediacy and raw creation.
This influence shines through in his recent songs, particularly “Cappuccino”, a track born out of a combination of fire and reflection. Inspired by the dance-like choreography of glassmakers, Beni merged the imagery of glassblowing with a songwriter’s workshop prompt to write about “a place”. What began as a glassblower’s tale transformed into the story of a ballerina in Reno, balancing beauty, fragility, and the inevitability of change.
Always Creating
Whether teaching songwriting at Berklee College of Music, recording home-grown tracks in a bedroom closet, or shaping molten glass into art, Beni continues to chase creativity with grit and humor. Projects like Two Lilies and Hawkweed, each fueled by his restless inventiveness, extend his solo work.
